Community Potluck and Open Forum

September 26, 2017 @ 6:30 pm - 9:00 pm

The Shepherdstown Community Club (SCC), known to many old-timers as “the Men’s Club” will hold an “open forum” in conjunction with a traditional pot-luck dinner. There will be no charge other than a voluntary contribution of a side dish for the dinner. Our objective is to get fresh new ideas from the community (from both individual families and organizations) on how the club can be more relevant and of service to Shepherdstown and the many who share our places of residence, business and recreation here in the Eastern Panhandle. We are aware that includes many in neighboring Washington County next door in Maryland. Although we work hard to raise funds through popular events as the Back-Alley Tour and Tea and the Annual Book Sale to maintain our historic building and Morgan’s Grove Park on the edge of town, that is secondary to our primary role of serving the community and preserving the quality of life that we enjoy, and have learned to expect here in Shepherdstown. We know that we are not alone in these efforts, so we hope to obtain new ideas and comments for the SCC itself and for active collaboration from other like-minded organizations such as: the Historic Shepherdstown Commission, the Shepherdstown Train Station, the Kiwanis Club, the Library, the Rotary Club, the Shepherdstown Ministerial Association, EPOS, and Shepherd University – to name just a few.

Our intent is to develop fresh new ideas and approaches for active cooperation that will enhance our relevance and raise the bar considerably as a viable not-for-profit community- driven organization. We will use this input to develop a productive agenda for the annual SCC general membership meeting in early November which elects new board members and sharpens the focus of our efforts for the coming year.
We see our role as maintaining and enhancing, wherever possible our building in town and the park as important logistic infrastructure to leverage our own efforts and those of others in support of activities and programs that will continue to contribute to the unique quality of life that we enjoy here. To do that realistically and effectively, we need your input.
