SHEPHERDSTOWN COMMUNITY CLUB * FEBRUARY DINNER & PROGRAM
TUESDAY FEBRUARY 17
Join the SCC for its February dinner ($20) featuring chicken pot pie – comfort food for a February evening in Shepherdstown – followed by a program about the regional HABITAT FOR HUMANITY, builder of homes with volunteer labor for families in need. Hear about how the families are screened, how the houses are built, and listen to the experiences of Shepherd University students joining us, who have been on a previous build and those awaiting their opportunity during 2015 alternative Spring break. At the War Memorial Building – Dinner starts at 6:30 and program ends at 9. Our dinners are prepared with fresh ingredients on the day by an SCC Board member. RSVP preferred so we have a dinner count, by email to Toni Milbourne firstname.lastname@example.org, or by phone 304-702-3026.
THE SCC CELEBRATES ITS 70 ANNIVERSARY IN 2015
The Shepherdstown Community Club (started as the Shepherdstown Men’s Club) was founded in 1945 at a meeting in McMurran Hall with 11 attending. They adopted a resolution whose objectives embraced the “civic interests of Shepherdstown and community, social fellowship, and [cooperation] with … organizations engaged in the promotion of public welfare.” In its first year of 1945 the Club worked with the Red Cross to provide lifeguard [s] and associated equipment at the town’s bathing beach on the Potomac River, held a wartime tin can drive that amassed 1,120 pounds of tin, and started its tradition of a Halloween party for local school children, which we continue in another form today.
Seventy years on you can see we have maintained these original objectives. Look for more of these historical slices during our year long celebration: THE SHEPHERDSTOWN COMMUNITY CLUB: SERVING THE COMMUNITY FOR 70 YEARS.
